Led by The Hampden-Sydney Club of The Peninsula, The Hampden-Sydney College Alumni Association established THE WATERS CUP in 1998. This award is presented annually to the outstanding club chapter from the entire Association. The award is named in honor of John H. Waters, III '58 (former Director of Admissions, and then Director of Alumni Relations) and his wife, Sally C. Waters (former director of Financial Aid) in recognition of their love for and distinguished service to Hampden-Sydney College.
The purpose of the award is to inspire perpetual club improvement while promoting cooperation and friendly competition among our various alumni chapters. The award will serve "to promote the general welfare of the College and to this end maintain the good will of alumni chapters towards the College and their comradeship towards each other".
